Kottayam, Jun 8 (PTI): Kerala Congress (Thomas) faction Chairman P C Thomas today said a special case should be filed in Supreme Court by raising the technical issue that the 116 year old Mullaperiyar agreement has no validity as per law. As per the section 108 of states Reorganisation Act-1956, Kerala should renew the agreement with Tamil Nadu within one year of passing the Act or the centre announce a special declaration. As nothng was done in the Act, the Mullaperiyar agreement of October 29, 1886 has no existence, Thomas told press persons here. He said report of the Empowered Committee on Mullperiyar dam submitted to Supreme Court was against the interests of the state. “Our prospects in Supreme Court was very weak”, the former MP said. Thomas said though eight months have passed there was no progress in the assurance given by Prime Minister Manmohan singh for an amicable solution to the issue between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Prime Minster should take the initiative for an out of court settlement, he said.
